The Boston Red Sox have acquired Steve Pearce in a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Boston will send minor league infielder Santiago Espinal to Toronto for Pearce and cash considerations.

Alex Cora said the Red Sox are adding a strong batter they can use against left-handed pitching.

"It's one more weapon that we have. We got better tonight," Cora said. "It's good to have him."

The Washington Nationals have acquired Kelvin Herrera in a trade with the Kansas City Royals for three prospects.

The Royals are receiving outfielder Blake Perkins, third baseman Kelvin Gutierrez and right-handed pitcher Yohanse Morel.

Herrera has 14 saves and a 1.05 ERA this season for the Royals, striking out 22 in 25 2/3 innings while walking just two batters.

The Brewers have acquired infielder Brad Miller and cash from the Tampa Bay Rays for first baseman/outfielder Ji-Man Choi.

The NL Central-leading Brewers made the deal Sunday and assigned Miller to Triple-A Colorado Springs. He was cut by Tampa Bay on Thursday.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have acquired Jon Jay from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for two minor league pitchers.

The Diamondbacks have two outfielders on the disabled list, creating a need for depth.

Jay signed a one-year deal with the Royals this offseason.
